New rail line ready to roll

THE last stretch of track on the new Airdrie to Bathgate train line has been put in place.

The final 15-mile link of the 300 million line opening Edinburgh and Glasgow up to thousands more commuters was completed yesterday.

Politicians and rail industry figures described it as a historic day that will transform the central belt's economy.

Passenger service are due to commence in December with four trains an hour between Waverley and Glasgow.
