New pedestrian crossing set to get the green light

A PEDESTRIAN crossing is to be created on Bellevue in Broughton, just north of the junction with East Claremont Street.

The city council is to consult local people on the proposals, which would see the northbound pavement widened and resurfaced, as well as the installation of a "puffin" crossing.

Leith Walk ward councillor Angela Blacklock said: "This particular position has been given high priority under the council's policy of improving road safety and reducing the number of people killed and injured on Edinburgh's roads. I walk this way up to the council offices from my house so I know how difficult it can be to cross, and a large number of schoolchildren also cross here.

"A letter is going out to residents. I am hopeful the proposed crossing will be popular."
