New mothers struggle with debt

MORE than half of new mothers get into debt while on maternity leave, research suggests.

About 53 per cent of mothers said they had built up debt during the first months of their baby's life. As a result, 14 per cent of people said they could not afford more children, while 21 per cent said they had returned to work early, or would have to do so.
