New deal for nursery hit by fund cuts

A NURSERY which lost its funding after a critical inspection has struck a new deal with its local authority.

Doubts hung over Butterflies Nursery in Musselburgh when East Lothian Council said it would pull 40,000 worth of funding following the damning report.

However, parents and staff rallied round, criticising the inspection and lavishing praise on the way the nursery helped its youngsters.

Not a single parent pulled their child out after last year's HMIE visit.

Now nursery bosses have renewed the deal with the council. It will now be re-graded after a more recent successful inspection and it seems its future is secure.

Operations director Lyndsay Grant, who always believed they'd be able to prove the harsh assessments wrong, said: "We had lots of support from local MSPs and of course parents are delighted."
