New charity aims to help abused men

CAMPAIGNERS aiming to raise awareness of domestic abuse against men have set up a new charity.

Abused Men in Scotland wants to highlight the plight of men who are being abused by their female partners in the hope of changing the public perception that women are the only victims.

It is also in the process of securing accommodation in Fife, and is appealing to any men in the Lothians who have experienced abuse to come forward.

Edinburgh teacher Alison Waugh and fellow campaigner Jackie Walls, who are behind the new charity, lodged a petition in the Scottish Parliament on the issue earlier this year.

Since then the Scottish Government has agreed to fund part of the Men's Advice Line in London to take calls from north of the Border.

The charity is looking to boost the number of trustees and is looking for people from a range of backgrounds.

A spokeswoman said: "The trustees will play a valuable part in shaping the strategic direction of our charity."
