New chapter for Portobello library following major refurbishment

A LIBRARY in Portobello was today set to officially open its doors following a revamp.

Since closing its doors in October 2009, Portobello Library has undergone a programme of upgrading works.

It will be the first library in the city to have a "Cuddle Book Corner", a special designated area for children up to the age of five.

There is also a dedicated space for teenagers, with selected books, games and a gaming area.

It also includes a new cafe with a relaxation and quiet reading area and an attractive outlook on to Portobello bowling green.

Councillor Deidre Brock, the city's culture and leisure leader, said: "Portobello Library is looking sensational following its recent refurbishment."
