New centre in photo call for snappers

BUDDING photographers are being offered the chance to have their digital images of East Lothian displayed in the new John Gray Centre.

The digital photography competition, launched by East Lothian Council's museums service, is seeking original and striking images of the county for display within the Haddington centre, which opens next year.

Councillor Ruth Currie, said: "The John Gray Centre will house the new Haddington branch library, the East Lothian local history centre, a museum and exhibition space, and the East Lothian archives.

"It is a brand new facility created within a historic building in the centre of the town, and will incorporate some of the latest technology to display many of the oldest artefacts and papers relating to East Lothian.

"The photographic competition continues this theme with entrants being asked to submit their interpretations of East Lothian."

The winning images will be displayed on the walls of the museum within the centre.

An exhibition of these images is planned as the first temporary exhibition at the centre, which will run from the opening of the centre late next year to Easter 2012.

The closing date for the competition is October 1. For more information, call 01620 828222.
