New base for lifeboat crew

LIFEBOAT crews have moved into new premises in South Queensferry and welcomed the arrival of a new vessel.

The improved base at Hawes Pier will allow the lifeboat to be launched quicker and save vital minutes en route to a rescue.

The new vessel was named the Jimmie Cairncross by the Duke of Edinburgh and incorporates the latest technology, with a self-righting mechanism and inversion-proof engines which allow her to remain operational even after capsize.
