New act begins as old theatre saved

SCOTLAND'S oldest working theatre has been saved from closure thanks to a grant from a charitable trust.

A sum reported to be close to 1 million has been awarded to the Theatre Royal in Dumfries.

The money from the local Holywood Trust will be used by the owners the Guild of Players, to carry out general repairs.
