Net security row over cash depot plans

MAPS showing the layout of a cash handling depot have been removed from the city council's planning website following claims their publication was a security risk.

G4S Security has applied to build an anti-ram security fence around its cash handling depot in north Edinburgh, but asked the city council to keep the plans confidential.

But within days of the application being lodged the council posted maps online showing access points and existing security fences, as well as a map and technical specifications of the anti-ram fence.

The council later removed the plans after being contacted by the company. A spokesman said: "The plans are not sensitive nor do they compromise the security of the property, but we have, at the request of the company, removed them from our planning portal."
