Neighbours save man in kitchen fire

NEIGHBOURS risked their lives to save a man from a fire.

Two neighbours, aged 29 and 39, rushed into a kitchen fire at the house on Cameron Way, Livingston, to save its 22-year-old occupant while a third neighbour put out the fire with a dry powder extinguisher.

Three of the men, including the rescued man, were taken to St John's hospital with smoke inhalation. One had slight burns and was kept in overnight.

Elsewhere, a woman was rescued from fire by a passer-by. The 43-year-old woman saw smoke at a house in Woodmuir Road, Whitburn, shortly before 8pm on Saturday night.

She called fire crews then entered the house to find a chip pan on fire, which she extinguished using a damp cloth before rescuing the householder, a 53-year-old woman.

The rescuer was taken to St John's Hospital with smoke inhalation. The householder did not require hospital treatment.
