Neigh Thanks pipped to the post by Yes We Can

THE race to the finish of the independence referendum has seen ‘Yes We Can’ make it across the line first.

As the run-up to Thursday’s vote continues, Musselburgh racecourse hosted a unique event which saw two horses represent either side of the debate.

And in rather murky conditions, Yes We Can ran out an easy winner over Neigh Thanks in the specially staged Ladbrokes Referendum Race.

With the Scottish vote for independence on the horizon, the Edinburgh venue, together with bookmakers Ladbrokes, got together to stage the two-horse affair.

Both horses were provided by Scottish trainer Jim Goldie and despite the race being run in thick fog, it was apparent from some way out that Yes We Can was heavily on top and she won by four lengths.

If recent polls are to be believed, the real thing will be a much more closely run affair.
