Nation 'on trial' over learning disability

A GROUP supporting Scots with learning difficulties is staging a mock trial in a bid to tackle prejudice against people suffering from the condition.

The organisation, People First (Scotland), say Scots with learning difficulties are fed up with facing daily discrimination, exclusion, mistreatment and harm.

It has organised an event to put the nation "on trial" in a bid to draw attention to their plight. The event will consist of a "jury" of 12 citizens who all have a learning disability.

The event, called "Citizen's Grand Jury," which takes place in Edinburgh's City Chambers on Wednesday and Thursday, will also hear from policymakers, care professionals and scrutiny and inspection bodies about the steps being taken to remove barriers and tackle prejudice.
