Mystery blasts hit Turkmenistan city

POLICE guarded a smouldering site near the Turkmenistan capital yesterday after a series of blasts severely damaged hundreds of houses in the town and left the streets strewn with burning debris.

Authorities blamed the explosion on fireworks in a warehouse, but satellite images show what appears to be a munitions dump at the location.
