Mystery after man found badly injured

Strathclyde Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found with a serious head injury in Glasgow on Saturday night.

A man and a woman alterted the police to the man's plight at about 8:45pm. They said they had seen him lying on the road outside the Marquis pub, opposite the Shettleston police office. He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where his condition is said to be critical.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, but police said it was unclear whether the man had been the victim of an assault, or taken unwell or fallen.

"Regrettably the young man is in a very serious condition in hospital, and his family are currently at his bedside," said Detective Sergeant Eddie Waye. "Naturally they are beside themselves with worry.

"I would particularly like to appeal to a man and woman who came in to the police office to report the incident. They left while officers were helping the victim, and I would urge them to get back in touch with us."
