Mutinous cup set to sell for a bounty

A COCONUT cup with a history rooted in mutiny is set to raise £1,500 when auctioned in the Capital next week.

The unusual cup, made from silver and a coconut shel,l was used by Captain William Bligh in the 18th century on board the British Navy ship the HMS Bounty, made infamous by the crew's mutiny in 1789.

The deep coconut shell bowl sits on a silver stem with the inscription "Cup used by Capt Bligh in the launch after the Mutiny on HMS Bounty".

It will be sold by Lyon & Turnbull on November 30.
