Music students will also perform a selection of work by Saint Saens, Michael Rose, Vivaldi, Gershwin and Handel and the finale piece will be performed by the entire ensemble.

Music lecturer at Stevenson College, Laurie Crump, said: "The concert will be unusual in the variety of its music: the range of instruments, voices and repertoire.

"Students will also premiere their own work at the event."

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Nordoff Robbins, a music therapy charity which uses music to transform the lives of people constrained by illness, disability and trauma.

The event takes place on 8 March with tickets on sale at the college's Music Box venue on 0131-535 4840.
