Murray hires legend Lendl to be his full-time coach

SCOTS tennis star Andy Murray has appointed the former world No 1 Ivan Lendl as his coach in a bid to help him land his first grand slam championship in 2012.

The Czech-born eight-time grand slam winner, who will serve as the 24-year-old’s full-time coach, is set to begin training ahead of this month’s Australian Open.

Murray rose to No 3 in the world rankings last year, but has so far failed to win any of the world’s most prestigious tournaments.

“Ivan’s impact on the game is unquestionable and he brings experience and knowledge that few others have, particularly in major tournaments,” Murray said yesterday.

Lendl, 51, who is one of the most decorated players of all time, said: “I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with Andy. He is a unique talent and I look forward to trying to help him reach his goals.”
