Murder victim 'was no angel, but was a dedicated family man'

A FATHER of four who was shot on his doorstep was "no angel" and had a string of underground connections, police confirmed yesterday.

But Anthony Wright was a "dedicated family man" whose death is "completely unacceptable", police added as they released a picture of the murdered man with his wife and children.

Mr Wright, 35 was gunned down outside his home in Inverkip Drive, Shotts, on Wednesday morning. He died in Wishaw General Hospital.

Police said the man responsible ran away from the house across waste ground at the back of the street.

The investigation had met with a "disappointing" response from the public, Strathclyde officers said.

The drivers of a red Ford Transit tipper vehicle and a silver Vauxhall Corsa car, seen close to where the shooting happened, are being sought.

Detective Superintendent John McSporran said: "I am well aware that Tony was no angel and that he had a number of criminal connections. Nevertheless, Tony was also a dedicated family man, who loved his partner Julie and would do anything for their children.

"It is particularly sad that their younger children will grow up without the opportunity to really know their father. The family are devastated by his loss."
