He had not been seen since about 1pm on Tuesday May 8 and relatives contacted police when they were unable to contact him.

A post mortem examination carried out last night confirmed that Mr Grant was murdered.

Detective Chief Inspector John McDonald, from Strathclyde Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: “The last sighting of Mr Grant was around 1pm on Tuesday May 8 2012. So far, we have been unable to trace anyone who has seen or spoken to him since that date.

“We are trying to establish when he died and it is possible that he may have been murdered anytime from May 8.

“I have a large number of officers in the area carrying out house to house enquiries and reviewing CCTV recordings.

“It is crucial that I speak with anyone who saw Mr Grant between 1pm on Tuesday the May 8 and Wednesday May 23 as they may hold vital information that can assist me in finding who is responsible for this murder.”

DCI McDonald, who is leading the murder inquiry, added: “I’m also keen to trace all Mr Grant’s friends and associates and I urge them to contact the incident room in order that my officers can speak with them.”

An incident room has been set up at Anderston Police Office to deal with calls from anyone with information about Mr Grant’s death or whereabouts over the two-week period.

Officers can be contacted on 0141 532 3270 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
