Murder investigation after Greenock man, 29, dies

A murder inquiry has been launched after a man died following a disturbance.

Police were called to Wellington Street in Greenock, Inverclyde at 1.15am.

A 29-year-old man was found seriously injured at the address by officers. He was taken to hospital but later died.

A police spokeswoman said: “On arrival, police found a man seriously injured. A 29-year-old was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he later died.

“A murder investigation is under way.”

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact CID at Greenock police office or by calling 101.

Police have said a number of men were involved in the disturbance at Wellington Street and a second man, 37, was injured and also taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Una Maider said: “At this time, we believe that there were three or four people involved in the incident.

“Wellington Street is residential and there is no doubt that people would have either seen or heard the disturbance take place.

“Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and checking CCTV in the area, and a number of people have come forward to help us with our enquires, however, at this time we do not have full descriptions of those involved.”
