Murder charge following woman's death

A MAN appeared in court yesterday charged with the murder of a 60-year-old woman injured in a disturbance in her street.

Margaret Burke died following an incident in Parkville Drive, Blantyre in the early hours of Thursday. She was found injured in the garden of her home and died later in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride.

Walter Weir, 35, was charged with her murder at Hamilton Sheriff Court. Weir, from Blantyre, also faces charges of breach of the peace and assault. He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
