Mum's tribute as Jordan loses battle

THE mother of a promising young footballer who lost his brave fight against cancer at the age of just 11 has told how her young son passed away holding her hand.

Jordan Houston died on Sunday at a children's hospice, his mum Chloe, 29, and step-dad Chris Napier, 31, at his side.

The passionate Celtic supporter, from Musselburgh, was diagnosed with a brain tumour a year ago, which doctors were unable to operate on.

Jordan's brave battle touched the heart of Celtic legend John Hartson, who had his own struggle to overcome cancer, and who became friends after the youngster was diagnosed in August.

Hartson visited the Loretto RC Primary pupil and has spoken of his sadness at Jordan's passing at the weekend.

Jordan underwent months of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and steriods in an attempt to fight off a tumour.

Chloe, who is mum to Nia, two, and Sean, eight, said that Hartson's visit boosted Jordan's spirits, and that despite the diagnosis, he remained a "happy, smiling wee boy".

"John is an amazing man," said Chloe, who gave up her job as a receptionist to care for her son. "His first visit came at the best time because Jordan had been very depressed and upset, but John's visit just gave him a boost.

"I think knowing John had been through cancer and came out at the end of it all right helped Jordan stay upbeat."

On Monday, Hartson spoke of his sadness after being told that Jordan's struggle had come to an end.

"My little friend Jordan lost his battle at the weekend," he posted on Twitter. "Very sad day, my thoughts and prayers are with his mum, dad, brother, and sister."
