MSPs back landlords law

A LAW to crack down on rogue landlords has been backed by a committee of MSPs, but they warned its success depended on councils having enough resources to implement it.

The Scottish Parliament's local government committee welcomed the improvements to landlord registration and the licensing of houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) in the Private Rented Housing Bill.

Committee convener Duncan McNeil said: "We believe that the success of any eventual legislation will be dependent on local authorities having the resources to implement it.

"Equally, success depends on the courts recognising the problems caused by rogue landlords and imposing higher fines."

The MSPs also said the Bill could complicate the current position on homelessness.
