MSP urges Government to lower fuel duty

AN MSP has called on the UK Government to cut fuel duty, as fuel prices in West Lothian rose to more than 125p a litre.

Livingston MSP Angela Constance is supporting the campaign for fuel duty regulator to be introduced, or for the powers over fuel duty to be transferred to the Scottish Parliament.

She said: "For the sake of West Lothian families and local businesses I am calling on the UK Government to either introduce a fuel duty stabiliser or transfer the powers to the Scottish Parliament and let us get on with the job of cutting the cost of fuel.

"In an area like West Lothian vehicle fuel is a necessity and not a luxury. Many of my constituents need to drive to work and are writing to me about the increased cost of petrol and the pressure this is putting on family budgets. Similarly, local businesses are also feeling the pressure at a time when the economy is still fragile."
