MSP to demand answers over handling of project

QUESTIONS are to be asked in the Scottish Parliament about Edinburgh's tram project.

Malcolm Chisholm, MSP for Edinburgh North and Leith, is demanding to know why 70 per cent of the 545 million budget has been paid, but only 22 per cent of work has been completed.

He has tabled a parliamentary question asking what issues the Government raised with the city council "before handing over each instalment of funding."

The news comes ahead of an Audit Scotland investigation of Transport Scotland's handling of the cash, which is due to report in the next few weeks. It is expected to lead to Holyrood's Public Audit Committee summoning Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson to answer questions.
