MSP pleased with plans on high hedges

PROPOSALS being drawn up by the Scottish Government to deal with the problem of high hedges have been welcomed by Livingston MSP Angela Constance

Fergus Ewing, the Community Safety Minister, has asked civil servants to start work preparing a new Bill to create legal protection for people regarding issues where overly high hedges or trees affect a neighbouring property.

Ms Constance said: "I know from constituents that this seemingly minor issue can be massively important and can ruin people's lives.

"This plan which seeks to ensure cross-party support and enable a Bill to be prepared now and hopefully introduced after the election will, I am sure, come as a great relief to a group of people who have felt imprisoned by their situation and ignored by the system."
