MSP Margo MacDonald voted 'outstanding role model'

Scotland's only independent MSP has been named as an "outstanding role model" for women.

Margo MacDonald was honoured as Devolved Parliamentarian of the Year in the Women in Public Life Awards.

The annual awards seek to "recognise and promote" the work of women in politics, business, the civil service and community leadership, and highlight the achievements of "outstanding" women role models.

She was also the chairwoman of the cross party group on sport, lobbying education ministers on the benefits of sport and physical education in schools.

Other women honoured included Mitie Group chief executive Ruby McGregor-Smith, who was named Businesswoman of the Year, and the BBC's political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg, who was named Journalist of the Year.
