MSP gets key role to study end of life Bill

A FORMER Wester Hailes GP has been appointed to a key role on a palliative care committee.

Lothians MSP Dr Ian McKee will become deputy convener of the end of life choices Ccommittee at the Scottish Parliament.

He said: "It's an honour to have been elected depute convener of the committee, but it will be no easy task given the extreme controversy surrounding the Bill.

"Every day I receive e-mails and letters from constituents for and against the Bill, and it's very difficult to represent constituents on a matter where public opinion is so evenly divided.

"I will need to be convinced all necessary safeguards are in place before I formally support the Bill during any vote in parliament."
