MSP dismisses zoo criticism

EDINBURGH Western SNP MSP Colin Keir has dismissed concerns voiced by animal rights campaigners about the giant pandas which arrived at the zoo last weekend.

Campaigners have argued the loan of the pandas from China is “less to do with conservation, more to do with resurrecting the fortunes of a fading visitor attraction”.

But Mr Keir said: “I’m absolutely convinced that the RZSS [Royal Zoological Society of Scotland] will guarantee the animals’ best possible wellbeing.”
