MSP calls for Paris rail link

CALLS have been made for a direct rail link between Edinburgh and Paris.

Charlie Gordon, Scottish Labour's transport spokesman, said he would call on ScotRail to provide a sleeper service to mainland Europe.

At present, all services from Paris and Brussels terminate at London's St Pancras Station.

Mr Gordon said: "I believe that travellers should be able to get on a train in Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Dundee or Edinburgh and get off in Paris or Brussels, without having to change.

"Taxpayers from all over the UK contributed to the cost of the Channel Tunnel and the new high-speed rail link to St Pancras."
