MP praises EU law move

Edinburgh West Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart has welcomed a new European law which allows citizens from across the EU to propose new laws.

Under the European Citizens' Initiative, from the end of this month a million signatories can request a law is drawn up and debated by MEPs.

Mr Crockart said: "This is a huge step forward in boosting popular support and understanding of how our European Union is governed."
