MP condemns parking hike

LIVINGSTON’S MP has hit out at a recent increase in parking charges in the town.

Graeme Morrice has said Land Securities, which owns car parks surrounding The Centre and Designer Outlet in Livingston town centre, has introduced a new 50p charge for the first hour of parking, while fees for two and three-hour stays have also risen.

Charges were first introduced at the area in June last year, despite public opposition.

Mr Morrice said: “This decision to increase parking charges is absolutely outrageous. When charges were first introduced last year, many of us said that it would be the thin end of the wedge.

“Now, just a little more than a year later, this hike in the charges show that the Centre’s owners are only interested in making more money from shoppers.”
