MP Anne Moffat attacks Labour Party vote 'bullies'

EAST Lothian Labour MP Anne Moffat has attacked the "viciousness and vindictiveness" of local party members as she faces possible deselection.

Ms Moffat, who faces a vote on her future by local Labour Party members, said she had been "bullied and intimidated" by activists, despite being too ill to attend meetings after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

The East Lothian constituency party has raised a series of complaints about her, alleging that she was not attending meetings and failing to campaign properly.

She said: "No-one has directly come to me with those complaints. I have had to obtain them through a third party.

"I suffered a brain haemorrhage – I don't lay that at their door – but certainly the road to recovery has been hampered by the bad feelings and viciousness and vindictiveness of these people."

She said that she had continued, against medical advice, and was determined to retain her seat.
