Moving to end child cruelty

A LOCAL removal company is to help promote the NSPCC by printing its helpline number on its removal boxes.

Pickfords' branch in Edinburgh will add the number to its boxes, to remind as many people as possible that wherever they live, if they have concerns about the safety and welfare of a child, they can contact the free and confidential Helpline on 0808-800 5000, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Last year more than 68,000 people across the UK contacted the NSPCC Helpline, 348 calls came from Edinburgh and the Lothians.

It is estimated that the awareness campaign will place the telephone number in up to 30,000 homes.

John Cameron, head of the helpline, said: "I hope that with Pickfords' tremendous support, more people will remember to call the NSPCC Helpline if they have concerns about a child, wherever they live in the UK."
