Mourners pay last respects to murdered nightclubber

Hundreds of people lined the streets yesterday to pay their respects to murdered nightclubber Sian O'Callaghan.

Well-wishers gathered in the Old Town area of Swindon, Wiltshire, where she lived with her boyfriend and was last seen alive, as the funeral cortege passed by with a police escort.

As the cortege made its way to a private service for about 90 close family and friends, many people threw flowers on to the hearse and others fought back tears.

One woman, who wiped away tears with a tissue, said: "I used to work with her but I don't really want to talk about it."

Floral tributes accompanying Miss O'Callaghan's coffin included two spelling out "SIAN" in white flowers.

Miss O'Callaghan was last seen leaving Suju nightclub in Old Town in the early hours of 19 March after a night out with friends. A major police hunt was launched for the personal assistant, including detailed searches of the Savernake Forest, near Marlborough.

Five days later police found the 22-year-old's body in a field in Uffington, Oxfordshire.

Minicab driver Christopher Halliwell, 47, has been remanded in custody to await trial charged with her murder.
