Motorists told to lock cars after spate of break-ins

MOTORISTS have been warned to take steps to secure their vehicles after four cars were broken into over a 12-hour period.

The first incident, at 7.45am on Monday, saw a black cab driver return to his taxi in Peacocktail Close, Niddrie, to find the front passenger window smashed and a mobile phone stolen.

A few hours later, at 11am, a watch and wallet were taken from a Fiat Punto which had its front passenger window smashed in nearby Niddrie Mains Road.

Between 1.45pm and 2.45pm in Duddingston Park South, a Vauxhall Astra was broken into and a handbag was stolen.

At just after 7pm, a man reported his Land Rover Freelander’s front passenger window smashed and an iPhone taken. Officers are investgating whether the incidents were linked.

A police spokesman said: “Drivers are reminded to make sure their vehicle is secured.”
