Mothers 'want to quit work'

MOST women want to work fewer hours or quit their jobs in order to look after their children, research suggests.

But two-thirds (65 per cent) say they have to work because they need the money, the study by the National Centre for Social Research found.

The research, commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), provides detailed information about mothers' experiences of, and attitudes towards working.

It found that almost two in three mothers (64 per cent) were in employment, with more than a quarter working full-time.
