Mother to sue over store row murder

A GRIEVING mother is suing supermarket giant Sainsbury's after her son was murdered in a frenzied knife attack by a colleague while working in one of the group's Scottish stores.

Russian-born Roman Romasov, 28, was fatally stabbed by fellow worker Robert McCulloch, 35, when ill-feeling between the two men spiralled into violence during a night-shift in a branch of Sainsbury's in Aberdeen.

McCulloch picked a kitchen knife from a shelf and then chased and repeatedly stabbed Mr Romasov - continuing the attack even after his manager rugby-tackled him.

He was jailed for life in April 2009 at the High Court in Edinburgh after he admitted murder.

It has now been revealed that Jelena Vaickuviene, who lives in Lithuania, is taking legal action against the supermarket chain, arguing Sainsbury's could be liable for damages over claims that McCulloch had racially abused her son before murdering him.

A spokeswoman for Sainsbury's said the company was unable to comment on the case.
