A MOTHER travelling with seven children has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle assault rifles for a violent Muslim sect into northern Nigeria.

Police said the 35-year-old was arrested taking a speed boat from Chad to Nigeria. Officers searched her bags of corn and found ten assault rifles and ammunition intended for the Boko Haram sect.
