Mosque plan turned down

A PORTOBELLO mosque's expansion plan has been vetoed by city planners.

The Portobello Muslim Community and Educational Centre hoped to create a new two-storey house for the imam and a prayer room for women.

However, planning head John Bury rejected the proposals for the imposing red-brick building on Fishwives' Causeway, saying they would be "out of character with the surrounding area" and would create parking problems.
