Morris family win memorial battle

THE brother of a woman murdered by her husband is being allowed to erect a new memorial at her graveside.

The family of Claire Morris launched a campaign to remove the headstone erected by her husband, Malcolm Webster, after he was convicted of murdering her in a staged car crash.

Aberdeenshire Council removed the headstone from the cemetery in Tarves, where Ms Morris is buried, in August last year. Her brother, Peter Morris, said yesterday he had now been granted permission by the local authority to erect a new memorial at her graveside.

He said he was being allowed to place a plaque to his sister on the cemetery wall, which belongs to the council. He plans to erect the memorial on 27 May, the 18th anniversary of his sister’s murder.
