More women ask for help to find work

A CITY charity that helps women get into work or training says demand for its services is growing because of the recession and changes in the benefits system.

Women onto Work runs free training courses that help disadvantaged women improve their confidence, job-seeking skills and ability to access education, training and jobs.

The charity, which was formed in 1989, takes on more than 100 new clients per year but believes there is a significant unmet demand for its services.

It will use a 5500 grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland to help it fill the gap.

Director Janine Botfield said: "The grant will help us to deliver programmes which will help us meet the increasing need for our services caused by the current economic climate and new and dramatic changes to the benefits environment."
