More tests to find out if body is missing Betty Brown

TESTS are still being carried out to determine whether a body found near Gretna belongs to missing Edinburgh woman Betty Brown, police said today.

Cumbria Police said they were still working to identify the remains found last month in a quarry in the Longtown area, five miles from Gretna, where Mrs Brown's daughter Sarah lives.

Tests are also being conducted on the body in a bid to establish a cause of death after a post-mortem in Carlisle failed to explain how the person died.

Mrs Brown, a 55-year-old mother-of-three from Gorgie, vanished after leaving home on May 28 last year. She was last seen getting off a number three bus on Nicolson Street.

The remains were found by a dog walker and it is feared they may have lain undiscovered for up to six months.

Police said that items found at the scene suggested the body might be that of Mrs Brown.
