From Saturday until September 4, the 1052 and 1452 trains from Edinburgh to Birmingham New Street and the 0617 and 1020 trains from Birmingham to Edinburgh will be 439-seaters rather than the usual 256.

Karen Hattie, Virgin's general manager for Scotland, said: "The extra seats will help to cope with rising demand since more and faster trains were introduced in 2008-9."
