More people living to 100

THE Lothians now has a record number of people who have reached their 100th birthday, the Government has announced.

Advances in medicine and growing awareness of how to stay healthy have been credited with the increase.

It is thought that around 150 people in the Lothians have made three figures.

Duncan Macniven, Registrar General for Scotland, said: "Centenarians are by far the most rapidly increasing age group."
