More Britons off on mini-breaks

THE mini-break holiday is back in fashion - thanks to the strength of the pound against the euro.

Countries outside the eurozone, such as Hungary, Denmark and Croatia, are also welcoming more Britons on short-stay trips, an index from American Express showed.

Based on best-selling currencies in the UK in the first half of this year, it indicated visits to long-haul destinations, such as Australia, the United Arab Emirates and China, have decreased.

Spain is set to remain the No 1 package holiday destination for UK families this summer, with Turkey and Egypt increasing in popularity.
