Constable Graeme McKirde said: “We are currently carrying out door-to-door inquiries and examining CCTV footage from surrounding premises in relation to this crime.

“We also want to hear from anyone who may have been in the Gretna Green area in the early evening of Sunday to give us a call if they saw anything suspicious.

“This has the hallmarks of a smash and grab-type raid and those responsible seem to know what it is they were after.

“Anyone with any information which might help us catch those responsible is asked to call Gretna police on 101.
