Moore denies daylight change plan

THE UK government has retreated from action that could have left Scots in the dark in the winter months.

Scottish Secretary Michael Moore yesterday denied there were any plans to extend British Summer Time to the whole year. His statement came after Prime Minister David Cameron had provoked outrage in Scotland by suggesting the government would consider it.

Keeping the clocks an hour forward would help people in the south of England, but cause problems those living in the north of England and Scotland because it would mean it would be dark earlier.

The move has been considered in the past and BST was extended to the whole year during the Second World War. But Mr Moore said it was not current policy, adding: "Any such changes would not be introduced without approval across the UK."
