MMR doctor 'planned to make millions'

THE doctor who sparked a nationwide scare over the safety of the MMR vaccine planned to make millions of pounds out of his discredited research.

An article in the British Medical Journal today states that disgraced Andrew Wakefield planned secret businesses to cash in on the bogus link between the triple vaccine and autism.

His alleged scheme is exposed in the second part of a BMJ series of reports into the scandal, the first of which branded him guilty of an elaborate fraud.

Mr Wakefield was struck off the medical register last May after being found guilty of serious professional misconduct over "unethical" research.

The decision marked the culmination of the longest medical misconduct hearing in the GMC's 150-year history, which lasted almost three years.
